New Estates, Sandy Soil & Coastal Wind — Joondalup Antenna Issues
Burns Beach, Iluka, Kinross — if you bought in one of Joondalup"s newer estates in the last fifteen years, there's a decent chance your antenna is about to give up. The ones builders install during construction are usually the cheapest option on the shelf, and they're typically positioned wherever was quickest for the installer, not wherever gets the best signal.
Builder Antennas That Don't Last
The coastal strip from Ocean Reef up to Currambine gets solid wind exposure. Standard lightweight antennas wobble in the breeze, and that movement is enough to cause intermittent dropouts. Heavier-duty antennas with proper guy-wire support handle it much better. You don't want to be up on the roof re-tightening bolts every winter.
Sandy Ground & Mature Trees
Sandy soil is something most people don't think about for antennas, but if you ever need a ground-mounted pole — say your roof isn't suitable or you're in a single-storey surrounded by two-storey homes — you need deeper concrete footings in sand than you would in clay. I've seen poles lean within six months because someone skimped on the footing in Connolly's sandy blocks.
